We recommend this class for teens, college students, business travelers, working professionals, or anyone who shops or travels alone. This extremely popular eight-hour course provides information regarding assault prevention; assailant traits and psychology; victim behavior; awareness and decision-making; and less-than-lethal emergency responses. We also include situation-response analysis, the psychology of deterrence, attack management, legal decision-making, and a clear definition of responsibility and authority.
The primary goal of this course is to provide the ability to process what is happening around you in a manner that will lend a much greater awareness in avoiding violence. Although not the primary focus, emergency physical techniques are taught in this class. These techniques are not size, gender, or athletic ability specific, so anyone can participate. We teach basic, simple gross motor skills principles based on extensive research into real-life confrontations, psychology, and human physiology. You may participate actively in the course, or, if you choose, you may just observe during the dynamic portions of the class.
We recognize that physical confrontations may not be predictable, so we do not offer a typical self-defense class or martial arts training seminar. Instead, we empower attendees to react in a variety of settings. This course has three main objectives:
- Inform attendees what is legal and appropriate action.
- Give attendees confidence in presenting themselves professionally in routine situations.
- Provide attendees techniques for use in emergency situations.
After this training you will be able to determine the potential for violence and have a greater awareness of strangers and street crime. In addition, you will understand victim and assailant traits, recognize how assailants get close to victims, and understand what the assailant needs for an attack. We instruct attendees in appropriate methods for walking through parking lots, buildings, and offices.
We will teach you how to make appropriate on-the-spot decisions regarding the use of force. You will learn the use of verbal direction to control dangerous people and use physical control methods with impact weapons, chemical agents, weaponless defense, and ground fighting. If you would prefer a more comprehensive course focusing on physical psychomotor techniques, please review the Personal Protection Course.
We can also present the principles of this course at a conference or in a public speaking format.
