Should the Castle Doctrine be adopted by all states?

Basic Handgun Safety & Self-Defense

Many states have passed some type of personal protection act that allows a citizen who does not have a criminal record and passes certified training to carry a firearm for personal protection. While statistics show the chances of you actually using a handgun for self defense remain incredibly low, you may find carrying one makes you feel more secure. If so, we recommend you participate in our Basic Handgun Safety and Self-Defense Course.

This essential course helps participants understand the legal aspects of carrying and using a handgun for self-defense. It is not a gun familiarization course, but instead a handgun self-defense course. We know that a handgun is not the total solution to the problem of violence: Avoiding the problem is much better. Knowing what to do is critical to your survival, so we aim to make students more aware of their surroundings as well as empower them to protect themselves and their families.

We host this eight-hour course at local gun shops. The Basic Handgun Safety & Self-Defense Course consists of lecture and classroom information, simulations, videos, a shooting drill, and a written test. It includes the following curriculum:

1. Statistics
2. The Legal Case, Statutes, and Case Law
3. The Four Rules of Self Defense
4. Role Definition
5. High-stress Performance
6. Attack Management
7. When to Point a Gun at Someone
8. Someone in Your Home and Home Security
9. Airline Travel
10. Communication with Police After a Shooting
11. Basic Handgun and Shooting Information
12. Handgun Operation, Handgun Safety, and Range Rules
